The modification of your already exisitng direct drive tunrtable may be an option and for speed modification to 3, 4 or multiple speeds, the following will be needed:
1) A direct drive turntable in perefect working condition* providing a 1/2" standard-mount headshell to mount 1/2" standard mount cartridges.
• I can provide custom modidifed plug and play ready custom tunrtables to your needs (Please Inquire)
• I will be happy to tell you, if your tunrtable is compatible with these requirements
*If your existing tunrtable is less than fully working, I can repair / restore your tunrtable to perform to original specifications and do all of the technical maintenanace to get it ready for the rotation speed modification
2) Once the motor is modified to provide the desired platter rotation speeds, for 78 RPM playback, the tunrtable needs to provide:
A cartridge that provides the needed wide groove stylus for 78's, OR: A dedicated head-shell / cartridge, that provides the 78 RPM wide groove stylus.
• I can provide a suitable cartridge, a complete headshell, or a solution that will allow to change stylie between micro-groove and wide-groove sizes (for specific cartridges only)
If your turntable is one of the below listed makes and models I can modify it within 5-15 business day turnaround time. Costs are in the $175 to $250 range for the platter speed modification only. Cartridge / headshell / stylus options, or specialty modification items in addition:

If your turntable model is not listed above: Please tell me what make and model, if direct drive (belt drive turntable modifications to 78 RPM not recommneded, and often no speed modification possible at all - need ot know motor type), If the turntable provides mounting for a standard-mount 1/2" cartridge. For turntable models not listed above I will give a first response by e-mail, and if we determine, that your tutntable model is a likely candidate for possible modification you will have to ship it in. After an extensive equipment evaluation I will tell you what I can do for you, how long it will take, and how much it will be, or if the unit cannot be modified. If your unit cannot be modified, or if no work is ordered, I charge a flat $50 equipment evalauation fee and will return the tunrtable in the same working condition, or better, in which it was shipped in. (Likely I will perform basic maintenance and re-work to improve long term reliablity of your unit, in order to get reliable test results form your unit) Shipping costs in addition.
Please NOTE:
• Before a speed modification can be performed the turntable to be modified has to be in flawlessly perfect working condition - Can repair, if needed (at additional cost)
• Most tunrtables are limited to play standard up to 12" records. Speed modification to 16 RPM will provide 16 RPM platter speed for regular record sizes up to 12", but cannot address size requirments for 16" disk size, such as used for commercial broadcast and trascripton records. In most cases: for 16" disks a specialty tunrtable will be needed - Please Inquire.

What is the difference between Turn Tables, Record Changers and Record Players?
Turntables are usually component type Hi-fi Stereo players that hook to an external amplifier or receiver. Almost all vintage tunrntables output at "phono" level to hook up to a "phono" input. If no phono input is present a Phono-Preamplifier is required.
Record Changers allow to play multiple records automaticly without interuption.
Record Players are usually one piece stand-alone playback devices that have all needed components built in, which includes a built-in amplifier and most often buil-in speakers. Some record players feature detachable speakers. Most Record Players do not provide and audio output and therefore are not suitable for transfering or recording.

Description: This unit was the ultimate to begin with: metal chassis, super heavey duty dust cover, a nice quality high torque quarz locked motor with a nice tone arm, all in near mint condition. Now theultimate has been transformed to the ultimate vesitile: besides the regular 33 / 45 RPM speeds, 16 and 78 RPM were added, to allow for all record types to be played on a top quality unit.
The unit operates either fully automatic or manual and the record size to be served can be selected indepndantly form the speed slection. There is also a repaet function that allows to continuously repeat records. when the record reaches then end the unit automatically returns the toen arm and stops platter rotation.
As with any vintage turtnable: This unit requires hook up to the "phono" input of your vntage audio equipment. If using modern equipment that does not longer provide "phono" inputs, or if direct hook-up to the audio input of a computer is required, a phono pre-amp can be added. (adds $39)

1970's High Quality Hi-Fi Stereo Belt Driven Turn Table w/ pitch control and Auto -Return Refurbished! -
Description: This SL-23 was made in the late 70's (1978). Technics is and always has been a name for quality. This SL-23 Hi-FI stereo turntable was constructed with a wooden base - No plastic here! Ironically this is funny, as labeled as "simultaed metal base". Wood is preferable because of it's sonic propperties.
A fine but yet kept simple turntable with auto-retun. It is excellent condition and it's mechanicanism and electronics were refurbished to provide long term reliable operation. Perfect to listen to those records again or transfer them to digital!
Features: S-tone arm with standard head shell connector that will fit any generic head shell, gentle lift oil dampened cuing mechanism, physical features: strobe ring with neon light for 33 and 45 RPM at 50 and 60 Hz (to allow acurate pitch adjustments), 33 and 45 separate pitch control adjustments. Motor control lever: 33, OFF, 45. Counter weight and anti scating adjustments. Outputs: cable with RCA jacks and ground wire.
Condition: Excellent, very clean works nicely as recently refurbished. Clean appearance with only minor and few medium scratches on the dust cover. There is one minor technical shortcoming: The new belt installed had been stored for a long time and is ever so slighlty uneven, so the unit has slighly higher wow and flutter values if compared to original specifications. the unit performs otherwise reliably! (replace the belt if disturbing - sales price was discounted! - I am currently out of sotck in regards to the needed belt)
Work performed (to present this unit in perfect and reliable working condition: Replaced the drive belt and cleaned all drive parts. Lubrication work and adjustments. Deoxydization of all controls and internal trimmer potentiometers, switches and contacts. Re-solder work of aged solder to provide stable and reliable operation for decades to come! Physical cleaning and detail work. A $85 job!

Description: This SL-D2 was custom modified to provide a precision 4 speed instrument to reproduce 16, 78, 33 and 45 RPM records. It features pitch control and stroboscope speed measuring. For those of you who not familiar with Technics SL series: SLs are used in recording studios and Pro-DJ setups and this home unit is no exception to outstanding quality. It shall be mentioned however that 16 RPM pushed this tunrtable towards it's physical limits, which means that at 16 RPM wow/flutter values are higher than normal. While this is likely acceptable for most 16 RPM playback this unit may not be ideal to do low speed conversions of regular speed 33 RPM records. Another rmodel of my custom modified tuntables may be more suited for that purpose.
The SL-D2 is much higher in quality than an average home stereo turn table.
Condition + Work performed: Mechanically sound. Completely overhauled: re-soldered aged solder points, re-worked all controls and switches and re-worked / re-lubricated mechanical parts; custom modified to accommodate 16 + 78 RPM speeds. Custom modified the strobe lighting to my green signature. All features work good. Cosmetics: Good (8/10), some signs of use, light scratches. Dust cover and turn table chassis have a few scratches

Description: This nice quality ultra compact Technics linear tracking and fully automatic tunrtable was completely re-worked ready for years of vintage vynil listening. Condition: Technically perfect: recently overhauled and fully tested. Physical: Tunrtable excelent with few signs of use. Dustcover: good - lverry ightly scratched, but has a couple of spots are noticaeble (see above picture).
Work performed (to present this unit in perfect and reliable workign condition: Overhauled the linear tracking meachism: replaced the drive belt and re-lubricated all mechnical parts. Cleaned the optical sensor and checked allignments. Replaced a defective sensor switch. Re-soldered aged solder points, de-oxydized switches and contacts. Lubricated the drive motor and othe rparts. Description: Record changers are quite rare and hard to find, if wanting a unit form the tunrtable area. Get this unit before it is gone. This Hi-FI record changer from the early 80's is the refinement of earlier vintage record changers often known to be hard on records. This unit attmepts to play records gently and to add true Hi-Fi turntable sound not found in earlier vintage changers.
Condition: physical condition: excellent, very clean - unusually great condition for it's age - very minor signs of use and age, only minor scratches. Working condition: refurbished - works flawlessly for decades to come.
